The Big Dance Schools Pledge Project

 

On the 18th of May, 2012 14 Ukrainian schools, which are the members of Connecting Classrooms Programme, more than 200 students gathered at the Kyiv Pavlo Tychyna gymnasia No. 191 to take part in the Big Dance Schools Pledge project in honor of the Olympic Games. It was a special day for everyone, because the Olympic Torch came to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and people around the world celebrated this exciting event.
On the 18th of  May 2012 a lot of students from different countries took part in a Guinness World Record attempt for the 'Largest Dance Routine - Multi-venue' at 1pm according to London (or 3 p.m. in Kyiv). Ukrainian schools were a part of the global community. On the stroke of 3 p.m. according to the Kyiv time Ukrainian students were performing the Big Dance choreographed by Wayne McGregor.
There were a lot of guests at gymnasia who supported and congratulated the students on this big event. Among the honorary guest there were Martin Day, Deputy Head of Mission of the UK in Ukraine; Martin Dowle, British Council Director; Maria Zakharova and Olexandr Shalenko, British Council managers; Mykola Kuchynskiy, Deputy Head of the Kyiv State Educational Department; 
Vasyliy Ilienko, Head of Dniprovskiy District State Educational Department.
Thanks to Connecting Classrooms Programme sponsored by the British Council Ukrainian schools had opportunity to meet in Kyiv.
Connecting Classrooms programme builds lasting partnerships between schools in over 60 countries around the world. Through these partnerships, the programme develops understanding and trust between young people in different societies, encouraging school children to learn and accept different cultures. Connecting Classrooms has already connected children and teachers from 30 Ukrainian schools with partner schools in Malta, Cyprus and the UK. It gives opportunities to make new friends in Ukraine and around the world, get acquainted with cultures and traditions of other nations. 
The 18th of May was proclaimed the Day of English at the Kyiv P.Tychyna Gymnasia No. 191. The students and the teachers of the gymnasia prepared and conducted a lot of activities for the guests from different schools of Ukraine. They were involved in the excursion around the gymnasia, school play on the History of Ancient and Modern Olympic Games, linguistic games and competitions. Finally, the students from 14 Ukrainian schools performed the Big Dance. It was a great event. Everyone was satisfied with the result of the joint project and had a good mood at the end of the day.
